In Starfield, we can expect many mods to appear over the next decade. Bethesda highly supports modders; Todd Howard said he is excited to see what they do with the game. Even before the official tools release, we already have thousands of mods on Nexus mods to try.
Like other Bethesda titles, mods for Starfield will see the game easily last a decade or more. Just look at Skyrim; mods on PC and console can give you an entirely new experience. Even players with countless hours in the game can download a mod and try something new.

What Are Mods?
Mods are community-created DLC that can change the base game significantly. The first mod for Starfield is already in the planning stages; however, that mod will be more like a patch than a full-on game-changing addition. Check out our Mods of the Week for all the latest and greatest releases.
When the modding community truly gets to grips with Starfield, we will surely see some fantastic things. Maybe whole new planets, NPCs that weren't in the base game, or even new quest lines with dialogue. The possibilities are endless; we will have them all listed here when that information becomes available.
Creation Club Mods
Bethesda's Creation Club was added to Fallout 4 and Skyrim - Special Edition as a place to find officially sanctioned mods. The club sells the officially sanctioned mods as if it were regular DLC for the games. The Creation Club is the best place to start for people new to modding.
Using this method to mod the base game of Starfield, players can change up their game using pre-approved and tested mods.
Creation Club is a collection of all-new content for both Fallout 4 and Skyrim. It features new items, abilities, and gameplay created by Bethesda Games Studios and outside development partners including the best community creators. Creation Club content is fully curated and compatible with the main game and official add-ons.
Creation Club will feature a wide variety of content, including but not limited to:
- WEAPONS: New weapons, material skins, parts, etc.
- APPAREL: New outfits, armor, and items for your character.
- WORLD: New locations, decorations, foliage, etc.
- CHARACTERS: New abilities, characters, companions, etc.
- CREATURES: New enemies, mounts, pets, etc.
- GAMEPLAY: New types of gameplay like survival mode, etc.
So before dipping your toes into the sometimes murky waters of modding your game, try some approved ones on the Creation Club first. Some mods on the club cost money, and the price varies from mod to mod; it is a small price to pay for a more stable experience.
We will update this guide as more mods come out for Starfield. As we said, Bethesda is very supportive of the modding community, so we can't wait for the official support and tools to be released in 2024.
