Crossing over franchises is a favorite hobby of science-fiction fans. In Bethesdaās newest space exploration game, Starfield, Star Wars appears to be one of the highly sought-after crossovers among fans.
If youāre a fan of The Mandalorian, youāll surely appreciate this simple guide designed to help you role-play as one of Star Wars' finest bounty hunters in Starfield.
Best Background for a Mandalorian
First, create a character with the Bounty Hunter background because this background unlocks boost packs, and you can use them immediately; no Mandalorian would ever be seen without their boost pack. The Piloting and Targeting Control Systems skills will help out when it comes to pursuing bounties in space.
An alternate build suggestion would be to use the Beast Hunter background. While not as strong for piloting or dogfighting, and no instant boost pack access, the Beast Hunter background does provide an advantage with the Fitness and Ballistics skills for run-and-gun gameplay. Gastronomy will come in handy to cook food to stock up on healing items while hunting.
To truly take on the mantle of Mandalore, you will also want to rank up your Intimidation and Laser skills - Mando, Jango, and Boba Fett are pretty good at handling precision laser weaponry, if you recall.
Best Mandalorian Traits
In Starfield, traits are optional but a lot of fun for role-playing. We recommend the following traits for some extra authenticity in this Mandalorian build.
- Introvert - Most of the time, the three Mandalorians in this build work best alone. Having others around only slows them down. This trait replicates exactly that, giving you more endurance when traveling alone and less when with others.
- Wanted - This trait will send you teams of other bounty hunters to try and take you out. As Mando, Boba and Jango are familiar with this situation, you should be too; as a trade-off, your damage output increases whenever your health gets low.
- Serpent's Embrace - This one is for players looking to RP as Djinn Darin; he has ties to a cult-like faction of the Mandalorians, who live by their own rules. Giving you a bit of leeway when dealing with the House Va'ruun is accompanied by increased health and endurance so long as you frequently use your ship to Grav jump.
Best Mandalorian Weapons
Mandalorians are known for their arsenal of weaponry they take with them on each job. We recommend the following weapons to stay on your toes and counter any situation.
First, you will want to equip a shotgun for close combat or a laser rifle for taking on gangs of enemies. We recommend a medium-distance laser rifle, which will be your primary weapon in this build, as we will focus on the Laser skill mentioned above.
The Unmitigated Violence rifle is the best laser rifle in the game and can be obtained by defeating The Hunter after choosing The Emissary in the Unearthed main quest.
However, as that is a late-game weapon, we recommend grabbing an Orion in the meantime; this laser rifle is easily obtainable in drops and most stores. It is better than the more common Equinox as it has higher accuracy and greater damage per shot.
If enemies decide to close in on you, the following shotgun should be equipped to your weapon shortcuts menu for quick access. Levelling up Shotgun Certification in the Combat skill tree is secondary to Lasers; they will hopefully not be needed as often but will still be a mainstay for this build.
The Boom Boom shotgun can be found in the following place for around 20K Credits -
- Neon Tactical in Neon, Volii Alpha.
Feeling more like a pistol and firing off a random explosive shot as a bonus, the Boom Boom is an excellent shotgun for any wannabe Mandalorian. It also fires faster than your standard shotgun and has 20 rounds per mag.
Then, you'll want the best long-distance weapon to pick off targets from afar; we recommend using the MagSniper. You can only purchase this gun after you reach level 40.
This elite weapon has a maximum range of 100 meters. You can purchase it for roughly 30K Credits at three locations -
- Centaurian Arsenal in New Atlantis, Jemison.
- Neon Tactical in Neon, Volii Alpha.
- Rowland Arms in Akila City, Akila.
In the meantime, any standard sniper rifle will do to take shots at enemies from a distance. Once you hit level 40, head to one of the above locations and purchase the Magsniper.
Next, you will need something for when things get up close and personal, keeping with the Mandalorian theme - try equipping a Wakizashi to replicate when Djinn Darin wielded the Dark Saber in the show.
This Katana can be found in Neon after joining the strikers, head to Ebbside, and enter Madame Sauvage's Place. Next, talk to Andrea to join the Strikers. After completing her mission to take out a rival gang, you will have access to the Strikers merchant who sells the Wakizashi.
Throwables will be essential in your arsenal; packing some grenades and mines to clear out gangs is a smart idea. They also come in handy if you need to make a swift escape! You can purchase these at most merchants or loot them from bodies and containers around the galaxy.
Of course, until you can get or purchase these weapons, any shotgun, laser rifle, sniper rifle, or knife will do before you can obtain our recommendations. Mandalorians vary between full-frontal assault and tactical manoeuvring, so these are the best weapons to complement that play style.
Best Mandalorian Ship
So, to fully round off the Mandalorian look, you want to have a ship styled like either Boba Fett's or Djinn Darin's. While you can use Shipbuilder to create these ships (links below), there is a ship that we would recommend grabbing from a side quest early on.
To get the ship in question, follow our Mantis Quest guide and grab the Mantis ship and armor at the end. The Mantis ship is an excellent upgrade to the Frontier and comes complete with better handling and handy shielded cargo storage for smuggling contraband.
If you feel like you have mastered advanced shipbuilding, have a go at making replicas of the most famous Star Wars bounty hunters' ships following the guides below.
- The Mandalorian - Razor Crest YouTube Guide
- Boba/Jango Fett - Slave 1 YouTube Guide
The good news is that neither of these ships requires mods to build. Follow the steps after getting some practice in Shipbuilder, and you should be good to go.
Now you have a Bounty Character set up and armed on your roster with a ship good to go; itās time to learn about the mods. Here we go.
Required Mods
While we say required, this complete build can still be enjoyed without the mods; they add a little extra fun. We also have a solution below for those playing unmodded or on Xbox.
Mandalorian - The Bounty Hunter
The first mod you will want to install is by modder Xaroph. Appropriately named āMandalorian ā The Bounty Hunter,ā this mod tweaks the Mantis spacesuit and the Starborn helmet to give them a more Mandalorian-like style.
The Mandalorian - Boba Fett - Jango Fett
The second mod from Acacyn takes the Star Wars look further by giving you Boba Fett and Jango Fett color themes for the Starborn armor.
Unmodded Option
If you are playing on Xbox or do not like to use mods, there is an alternative that will work as a substitute. Simply kill enemies wearing bounty hunter space suit parts and loot their bodies.
The bounty hunter space suit looks similar to Boba Fett's armour, although it is bulkier. Or, if you followed the steps to complete the Mantis quest, the armor from that has a Mandalorian vibe to it as well. While mods are the best way for accuracy, this method works as an alternative.
Star Wars Bounty Hunter Jetpack Sounds
Finally, you can complete the Mando theme by downloading the āStar Wars Bounty Hunter Jetpack Soundsā by Jediah or another mod by SPARTAN747 that changes the sounds of the Solstice and Orion guns into the Mandalorian blasterās sounds.
To make your game even more Mandalorian-themed, install Ricknar7ās Mandalorian-inspired main menu!
The Starfield modding community is quite lively, especially those who are Star Wars fans. Check out this mod to replace guards with stormtroopers, or this one that lets your ship sound like a Star Wars A-Wing starfighter!
