Base building, a returning feature returning to Starfield from the esteemed Fallout 4, has a new form - outposts. This is where you can set up camp to harvest a planet's resources to collect to make some extra credits or to craft something new. Here, we will be looking at the best planets for outposts.

We have included some handy information on potential set-up sites when first venturing into the galaxy and some advanced building spots for those willing to risk it for more valuable harvesting.

Best Planets for Outposts

Planning where to place an outpost is the first step you should take when looking to set up camp. Ideally, you'll want to find a resource-rich world with plenty of flat land to support your structures. So, let's look at the best planets for outposts when starting out in Starfield.

You also want to avoid any planets with hazardous weather conditions; otherwise, you will struggle to develop and expand your new outpost. Picking a planet at the start will combine the above and use worlds close to the starting systems for convenience.

So, before we even take a look at how to build an outpost, here are some planets we recommend settling down on:

Andraphon

This is an ideal location to practice space farming. Plenty of variety in resources and good potential build areas to test out different outpost structures. Close enough to the starting area to give easy access to the main cities.

Luna

Our very own moon is a good place for outposts. There are only two resources available, but the broad, flat areas make it a perfect location to build a sprawling outpost. It is a great place to practice putting together components before moving on to those more challenging locations.

Tau Ceti VIII-b

This one might be a bit further out from the central planets than some of our previous suggestions, but it's definitely worth the trip. It boasts seven different resources for you to farm for crafting or credits.

Advanced Outpost Planets

If you feel you are getting to grips with outposts and selecting a planet, we have some advanced outpost locations for you to consider. These worlds will feature extreme conditions, so make sure to unlock the Planetary Habituation skill, or you won't be able to construct an outpost on them.

You may wonder why anyone would set up their outpost on a planet with such harsh conditions, and we hear you. But there is an excellent reason to venture into the darker corners of the galaxy: you want to work towards building these harsher environments for better and rarer resources; it's a risk vs. rewards situation.

Nesoi

Jam-packed with primary resources like Benzene, Irioum and Tantalum and rare resources like Uranium, Iron and Argon, Nesoi is an easy-to-recommend planet for building a decent-sized outpost on to reap the rewards.

Porrima IV-d

On this moon, the risk is definitely worth the reward; eight highly sought resources can be found here once you have the skills to take it on, head here and make camp!

Titan

This planet is actually a moon of Saturn and has a great resource pool of harder-to-find substances. The only downside is the extremely cold temperatures found here. Be sure to unlock the Planetary Habitation skill and equip the correct spacesuit before settling on this planet.

Volii Epsilon

Resource-rich and close to the central systems make Volii Epsilon the ideal candidate for an outpost. High Solar radiation and chemical-based water make this a planet to tackle once you are comfortable with the challenge.

This list will give you a good starting point for your outposts in the early game. All are accessible with your starting ship and are relatively close to the starting area. Once you have got to grips with building an outpost on a relatively low-risk planet, move on to one of the more advanced areas to harvest some rare and valuable resources.

Still, take care when on a planet with extreme weather conditions; even the most hardened explorers can be caught off guard. Equip the correct protective armor and keep some weapons handy for all the hostile creatures that may try to remove you from your new home.
