Starfield is starting to see a positive uptick in player count over the weekend immediately after its latest update, Update 1.11.33, started its Steam Beta public testing phase in preparation for a May 15 launch.
Starfield may have seen an impressive player count on the release date and the days immediately following. However, once the gameās deficiencies were brought to light, Bethesdaās newest open-world RPG started seeing drastic drops in player count until it only sees less than 4,000 gamers playing simultaneously on Steam on any day as of April 30.
However, things started to change when Todd Howard announced the coming of a new update, which was later revealed to be Update 1.11.33. This update will bring the much-requested city maps along with other new gameplay features to the game.
The update will also include Visual and Performance modes similar to those in the Fallout 4 next-gen update, as well as customizable difficulty settings.
Bethesda also supported the announcement with a video on their official YouTube channel, which revealed that the team is also working on bringing the first land vehicle to Starfield.
As a result, Starfield is seeing an increase in concurrent player count on Steam alone, where participants are testing the new patch. Data from SteamDB show that the game achieved a weekly concurrent player peak of 10,139 as of Sunday, May 5.
Of course, that dwindled to 6,135 as of today, May 7, as players leave the game to continue their weekday routines.
The new patch will be rolled out to all players, including those on Xbox Series X and S consoles, on May 15. Whether the seemingly positive reception to the new patch is sustained on global release remains to be seen.
Curiously, Starfield players have also dialed back on the hate rhetoric on Reddit following the release of the beta update. However, the uproar about Helldivers 2 is also instrumental to this development.
