The balance of content on the Starfield main thread on the social networking forum Reddit has always leaned towards the hate side, but in the past few months, some players have actually grown accustomed to that mix, and some have expressed surprise at seeing the lack of angry posts on that subforum.
These users, who posted the thread on the NoSodiumStarfield subReddit, noted that this began after the start of the Steam Beta update period for 1.11.33 and after the Helldivers 2 fiasco involving the PlayStation Network.
Update 1.11.33 is the patch that Todd Howard referred to when he spoke about city maps and shipbuilding features during an interview with Kinda Funny Games. It is scheduled to be released on May 15 to both PC and consoles.
On the other hand, the Helldivers 2 fiasco is the fan outrage resulting from the PlayStation Network’s announcement that it will block players who play the game without a PSN account. It has since been resolved, but not before angry fans have aired their negative sentiments online at the behest of the game developers.
Despite the posts dwindling due to these two events, some Redditors in the NoSodiumStarfield thread are not convinced that the hate bandwagon has stopped.
In fact, user Zamparelli warned that, once they return, the complaining mob will take credit for the positive changes brought about by the new update to justify their behavior.
It might even be possible for players to start review bombing Starfield again, which has become a regular occurrence following every significant event in the game’s career.
For instance, the game’s review score on Steam went back up to Mixed after being Mostly Negative in December, only for new players to flood it with negative reviews following a win as Most Innovative Gameplay from the 2024 Steam Awards.
