Although the decisions have become minor controversies, Starfield continues to amass nominations last month and this month. This is even though the game failed to bag the Game of the Year award in last year’s The Games Awards event, losing to Baldur’s Gate 3 instead.
As the year started, Starfield had a surprise win at the 2023 Steam Awards, taking away the Most Innovative Gameplay award. Not surprisingly, fans began to pile in on Steam to give negative reviews in response to the win, although it is a tradition that players vote for the winners in this awards ceremony.
Starfield also has three nominations for the categories Narrative, New Intellectual Property, and Technical Achievement at the British Academy of Film and Television Awards. The awards body will reveal the winners of the jury-only votation on March 7.
It appears Starfield fans have yet another awards body to follow in hopes of a new Starfield award win after all. Bethesda posted on its official X account that it has been nominated for six awards at the National Academy of Video Game Trade Reviewers.
Aside from the Steam Awards Most Innovative Gameplay award this year, Starfield also won the Xbox Game of the Year Award last year at the Golden Joystick Awards.
Starfield currently has a “Mostly Negative” score on Steam, which worsened after players flocked to the gaming platform to put in their negative reviews following the game’s win in the Steam Awards.
Bethesda was criticized last year after its customer support representatives were seen responding to negative reviews on Starfield. However, other game developers said this has been a common practice among their peers for many years.
