Starfield has a booth at Gamescom highlighting snippets of the upcoming DLC, Shattered Space, complete with cosplayers showcasing what appears to be a Va’ruun armor for the DLC.

During the Gamescom Live for Starfield, lead creative producer Tim Lamb mentioned that the story starts in a derelict space station, hinting at the horror aspects of the DLC.

Lamb continued to describe the DLC as something that might change people's perceptions of Starfield and what will happen during the events of Shattered Space.

Shattered Space will focus on the story of House Va’ruun. It will utilize the planet Va’ruun’kai as the whole area for the DLC, similar to previous Bethesda DLCs such as Shivering Isles or Far Harbor. There will be tons of planetary exploration within Va’ruun’kai, and players can side with House Va’ruun’s minor factions.

These activities will eventually result in different NPC quest endings. They may affect how other Starfield factions, such as the Crimson Fleet or Ryujin Industries, treat the player character. Shattered Space will also feature more of the faith of the Va’ruun, with hints of the player character possibly joining the religion.

Dazra, the capital city of Va’ruun’kai and the place that connects almost everything in the DLC, appears to be in a state of catastrophe, with new enemies such as the Vortex Horror bringing in chaos and new creatures called Vortex Beasts.

These monsters will amp up the horror aspect of the game and might encourage melee builds, considering that the base game is too focused on ranged combat.

Just like Skyrim’s politics, Shattered Space will delve into more of House Va’ruun’s internal politics and how the catastrophe was brought upon them.

Bethesda Game Studios has made Shattered Space feel like a classic DLC, like Dawnguard and Far Harbor, by setting it on a singular planet.
