Starfield’s Shattered Space was in the limelight during Gamescom’s Day 1. Lead creative producer Tim Lamb showcased the DLC, with most events happening within one planet only, the Va’ruun’kai.

This is similar to what the planned annual story expansions that Todd Howard mentioned in an interview will look like, and Shattered Space is the first to let players experience Starfield in brand-new ways.

The DLC will solely focus on a story revolving around Va’ruun, and exploration and quest progression will be contained within one planet. The planet’s capital, Dazra, will be the main hub for everything happening in the DLC.

Players do not need to leave the planet to finish the expansion. Shattered Space aims to provide a classic Bethesda Game Studio experience by focusing more on different locations around the city, making exploration a delightful experience. Tim Lamb mentioned that Shattered Space in its entirety is “an interesting story, a handcrafted world, [with] new weapons, new gear, [and] new items,” which might change the way players and fans think about Starfield.

Fans can now expect that Todd Howard’s mention of annual story expansions for Starfield will look like how Shattered Space focuses on one planet and expands almost every gameplay feature around it.

The next story expansion does not have a date yet, but Todd mentioned it will happen after Shattered Space is released.

Shattered Space will be available for free on Xbox and PC this September 30 for players who have purchased the Premium and Constellation editions of Starfield.
