What are Powers in Starfield?
Powers are unique abilities you can perform and use by using up portions of your power gauge. Each power has a cost, and the gauge refills over time as you use them.
These abilities vary from slowing time to throwing blasts of freezing ice and can change up your combat experience. Powers make combat in Starfield much more fun, and you should try to unlock powers as soon as possible.
How to Unlock Powers in Starfield
The very first Power you unlock is the Anti-Gravity Field Power. You unlock it during the third Constellation mission, Into the Unknown, which means you can access it early.
For this mission, you travel to the planet Procyon III to investigate the source of an anomaly. You'll find your way to a mysterious temple, and once you solve its puzzle, the power is yours.
Starfield Temples Explained
After the first temple, you get the side mission, Power From Beyond, which has you travel throughout the Settled Systems to various planets in search of temples. Each temple puzzle you complete will award you with a new power that can drastically change your gameplay.
However, note that every temple has a corresponding artifact. Only once you find the artifact can you unlock the temple's location related to it. Vladimir Sall will help you locate the temples once you've submitted and activated a new artifact.
How to Locate Temples
The temples are key points of interest and are easy to spot as they are high-rise structures. You can always open your scanner if you can't find it because of the terrain or atmosphere. You'll notice a weird spiral when you look toward a temple, and the scanner will start glitching out.
How to Solve Temple Puzzles
Temple Puzzles are straightforward and follow the same trend. You need to fly around in zero gravity and collect the glowing fragments of light until the spinning rings in the middle stop.
Once they stop, you need to fly through the middle of the newly formed portal. You'll be able to tell when you've collected all the lights due to the sound effects in the temple.
However, whenever you leave the temple after gaining a new power, you're likely to be attacked by Starborn enemies. These are level 30 enemies who can hide their presence and be pretty tricky to deal with. They don't drop any loot; instead, they drop Quantum Essence, which can be used to replenish your power meter.

How to Upgrade Powers in Starfield
Starfield has one of the most expansive new game plus mechanics we've seen in quite a while. When you enter new game plus, you can revisit the temples, and every time you gain a power you already have, it receives an upgrade.
You can upgrade each power nine times until you reach its final level X. Every upgrade will either lower the cost or increase the strength and duration of the power. This means you can play NG+ up to 9 times until you max out your powers.
