Starfield will have you collecting many spacesuits throughout your galactic adventure. Each has armor ratings and various hazard protection stats that are useful when taking on extreme environments or combat encounters. The Mercury Spacesuit, based on a real-life suit used by NASA astronauts, will delight space geeks when they find it.
We will look at the Mercury Spacesuit in Starfield and its real-life counterpart, where to get the suit, how to obtain it and the stat bonuses that come with wearing it.
NASA's Mercury Spacesuit
The retro-styled spacesuit is famous for being the original spacesuit shown off by NASA during the institution's early days. The Mercury era was the first time NASA astronauts flew into space. The Mercury suits, sadly, were never actually worn in space, only inside the spacecraft. NASA's first venture into full spacewalks took place during their Gemini program.
NASA introduced the 'Mercury Seven' or 'Original Seven' to the world on April 9, 1959, six months after the agency was founded. Members of the seven were - Walter M. "Wally" Schirra Jr., Donald K. "Deke" Slayton, John H. Glenn Jr., M. Scott Carpenter, (back row) Alan B. Shepard Jr., Virgil I. "Gus" Grissom and L. Gordon Cooper, Jr.
How to Find the Mercury Spacesuit
In Starfield, the same suit NASA started with can be obtained and worn by players. To find the Mercury Spacesuit, you must proceed through the main story until you reach the mission Unearthed and meet the Hunter and Emissary Starborn on their ship.
Once you have spoken with the Starborn, you will have the Moon Base Key in your inventory to gain entry to the Nova Galactic Base on the Moon. Once you complete the mission on Luna, you will be instructed to go to the NASA launch tower on Earth.
Mercury Spacesuit Location
After finishing the Nova Galactic Base objective during the Unearthed mission, travel to Earth using the NASA launch tower landing point. Once there, make your way up the structure and use the elevator to enter the main building.
Inside, following the waypoint, you will enter a NASA display room. This is such a cool room; you can loot things like NASA notepads, cups and other branded memorabilia to take home as a memory of your visit.
In the middle of the Project Apollo and Project Gemini exhibits, there is a display case with a mannequin that can be opened to take the mercury gear. There is also an extra pack and helmet behind the mannequin case to grab if you want to sell them later for credits.
