Food and drink in Starfield play a larger role than we have seen before. Sure, we had food and drink in Skyrim, but there was little you could do with it. There was no in-depth cooking or crafting system like we have in Starfield. Investing in cooking allows you to get some sweet perks in Starfield. So let's go over all the food and drink in Starfield.
Food & Drink in Starfield
The food and drink we have had up till now in Bethesda titles were just alternate skins for potions. Sure, there was a varied selection of goodies to pick up across the dragon-filled lands, but there wasn't much depth.
Cooking was indeed present but in a limited form. Using cooking pots to craft recipes was basic and did not require the use of any skills. Starfield, however, has shown a much more complex and in-depth focus on the culinary arts. You can find cooking stations in several locations, such as police stations, The Lounge, and your homes.
You can use these stations with the right materials and recipes unlocked and whip up some delectable meals.
Food & Drink Research - How to Unlock All Food Recipes
To access Starfield's food and drink recipes, you need to unlock them from the Research Station. Research requires you to have certain materials as well as the Gastronomy skill.

Gastronomy Trait
When choosing a background for your character, you must be mindful of traits. Three traits are given to each background, each having individual bonuses. The Chef background comes with Gastronomy as one of the three starting skills.
Gastronomy is the art of choosing, cooking, and eating good food. This will mean your Gastronomy trait will enable better quality Food and Drink to be crafted. This trait will be helpful if you plan on making extra credits with your cooking skills.
