Shipbuilding is one of the major things players do when not surveying all 1,600 planets in Starfield. While it usually costs a lot of credits to create the best starship in the universe, shipbuilding also requires a lot of creativity.

That’s why Bethesda created the Starfield Starship Design Contest. Aiming to bring together the Starfield community and passionate shipbuilders, this contest will reward the grand winner with an AMD CPU and GPU.

However, many fans feel that the contest involves some wild shenanigans, with modded ships being able to enter despite mods disabling achievements.

Originally posted on Reddit by user u/Helpful-Leadership58, they shared their sentiment that if modded ships were allowed to enter the contest, there should’ve been a contest category for vanilla builds to ensure fair competition, considering that even the slightest usage of mods disables Starfield achievements.

Many fellow Starfield fans agree with the sentiment, stating that it cheapened the whole contest for them. Some mentioned that while the contest isn’t entirely made up of modded entries, some ships were created through glitching, which was already present in vanilla.

According to some Starfield players, three categories for the contest would’ve been great—vanilla, glitched and modded.

Aside from this, other Starfield fans feel that Bethesda has purposely made Starfield shallow and fleshed out by mods.

Whether it be new quests or new buildings for New Atlantis, Starfield’s wide variety of mods made by modders using the Creations Club often elevate the game more, including shipbuilding.

While this may be the case for some Starfield players, the designs in the contest are undeniably amazing and unique. It wouldn’t be too far off if Bethesda would one day add these ships to Creations Club and add it as a paid mod.
