Amidst the thousands of available and mostly free mods on Starfield’s Creation Club, paid mods are still on the front page of the Creation’s Club. One of Bethesda's most talked about mods is the CombaTech Digital Camo Skin Pack mod, a weapon skin mod that changes the appearance of the Starborn's weaponry.
For many players, it is difficult not to question this paid mod, especially since it is a mod from Bethesda. Many ask why players can pay for some paint jobs from Bethesda but cannot customize other aspects of the vanilla game, such as ship parts.
The question was originally posted on Reddit by user u/Tyraniczar, who wondered why a giant studio like Bethesda would sell features such as game skins if these should’ve been part of the game’s basic features. They then proceeded to ask if there were people who bought these paid skins from Bethesda, to which many people responded.

A fellow Starfield fan mentioned that having the ability to customize the appearance, such as dyeing armor and ship parts, should’ve been part of the game since day one.
From a consumer and player standpoint, Bethesda seems to be pushing too hard to monetize Starfield’s Creation Club through these customization features.
Some players shared that Bethesda seems to be focusing only on the money by adding a live-service feature to a single-player game,
One community member argues that these paid skins do not disable Starfield’s Xbox player achievements, which makes sense since the mod only changes the weapon's appearance.
However, hundreds of other skin mods are available in the Creations Club, yet these mods disable achievements even if they have the same exact purpose as the paid ones from Bethesda.
Todd Howard recently mentioned in an interview that they would be looking for a better system regarding paid mods that will benefit everyone, from modders to players and consumers.
So far, Bethesda hasn’t released any formal announcements regarding paid mods in the Creations Club. They may reveal new updates when Bethesda discusses Shattered Space in the upcoming Gamescom live stream.
