Starfield received an update during the Gamescom livestream last week, with the REV-8 now available for everyone on PC and Xbox. The update took over a month after its preceding update, and Bethesda's long period of non-activity caused some players to stop playing the space exploration RPG.
However, the recent update seemed to have brought more life into the game, with almost 16 thousand concurrent players in Steam alone for the past 24 hours. The numbers may be bigger, considering the huge population of Xbox and Game Pass players.
Originally posted on Reddit by user u/ShadowComplex0, they shared a graph of the gameās player count for the past few days, with a noticeable uptick of players right after the recent REV-8 update was released.
Many players were happy about this information, with several citing that if Bethesda continues to listen to community feedback and have these quality updates, Starfieldās player count will steadily increase in a short time. Other players pointed out how land vehicles largely contributed to the improved numbers, even though it was just a small added feature.

Starfield may have increased Steam numbers, but many players say that Starfield is still far from what they expected from the game at launch. Some feel that Starfieldās story and characters are far inferior to those of Skyrim, and others say that Skyrim still has a better player count even up to this day.
Todd Howard mentioned during a previous interview that Starfield will continue to receive annual story expansions through DLCs, which may skyrocket Starfieldās player count, especially with how Shattered Space plans to add the classic Bethesda DLC experience.
