Starfield features many factions, but players can rarely see these groups fighting each other, especially in space. With the Dark Universe - Crossfire mod, however, encountering interfaction conflict becomes the norm.

Starfield lacks serious faction warfare, which unfortunately breaks immersion for the player. It’s simply impossible that the numerous factions in the game will not clash once in a while in a galaxy as large as the one in the game.

This missing feature even has some players theorizing that Shattered Space will include some content about the Colony Wars that took place 20 years before the game, although the House Va’Ruun has been seen in code strings spotted in the segment of Bethesda’s update video touching on the DLC.

Until Bethesda confirms that information or releases the much-awaited Shattered Space chapter, players are still looking for ways that they could at least see some faction fighting in Starfield. This new mod, called the Dark Universe - Crossfire mod on Nexus, aims to fix that craving.

According to the mod’s description page, it will add a huge number of points of interest (POI) in space as well as introduce the following new encounter types:

  • Piracy Boarding
Players receive a distress signal and find the Crimson Fleet attempting to board a ship.
  • Faction Skirmish
The distress signal leads the player to a fight between two factions. The player has to decide which side to pick.
  • Faction Skirmish, Tides Turning
The player responds to a distress signal sent by a faction looking for backup.
  • Faction Stronghold
The player arrives at a POI that’s heavily defended by a certain faction.
  • Ship Under Fire
This is similar to Piracy Boarding, but this time, the faction is out to destroy the ship instead of boarding it.
  • Trade Vessel Mayday
A civilian ship carrying valuable goods is under attack.
  • Stranded Ship
The player has to respond to a distress signal but finds a hostile ship instead.
  • Boss Fight
The distress signal leads players to a boss ship.
  • Smugglers
The player receives and responds to a distress signal that’s a lure sent by smugglers.
  • Hostile Faction Installation
The player links up with a hostile faction and follows the ship to numerous installations.
  • Trading Post
The player pilots their ship to a Trade Authority outpost to transact.

Although Todd Howard promised official mod support to come in early 2024 for Starfield, there is still no release date for the Creation Kit. However, Bethesda did confirm that they had already facilitated a closed beta testing for the Kit involving Verified Creators in the Creations platform.
