Starfield is not out yet at the time of writing, but we already know the install size. First, the download size of the game is far bigger than Skyrim, as you would expect, at 126.1GB on Xbox and 139.84 GB on PC. That's just a colossal number, and you can definitely fit a truly impressive open world into that amount of space.

As for the facts we know about the size of the world, there is little pre-launch information regarding the number of planets and the length of the main quest.

One of the core activities in any space RPG is discovering and exploring new planets, and there are plenty of them in Starfield. The developers promised us 100 star systems in which there will be more than 1000 planets. This number is really impressive, given the promised opportunity to explore these planets.

However, that's not all. Some of these planets may have different moons and satellites. Sometimes you will explore not only the planet itself but also its moon.

Most of these planets and other objects will be procedurally generated. This means that the game will create new locations when needed. There will also be pre-generated locations that are guaranteed to spawn on certain planets.
