If you listened to Children of the Sky, Imagine Dragons’ tie-in song to Starfield, you could deduce from the lyrics alone that Bethesda’s newest RPG, Starfield, is all about breaking barriers. After all, humanity doesn’t have to keep its feet chained to the ground.

Both critics and fans agree that Starfield has broken barriers since it was officially launched on September 6.

Just days after its launch, it was announced that Starfield had an accumulated six million players on Steam. Ten million players immediately followed this after three weeks, with a peak in concurrent player count of more than 330,000 between that and the launch.

Although it slowed down some, Starfield reached 13 million players just last week!

Thus, it’s no surprise that Starfield is one of the 12 highest-grossing Platinum games on Steam for 2023. This was achieved despite the game being a 'Johnny come lately.'

Even more remarkable is that it competed with games like Cyberpunk 2077, Counter-Strike 2, and Baldur’s Gate 3 - games that have been in the market longer than Starfield’s three months.

According to Steam, the data only covered sales from January 1 until December 15, 2023. This does not include the data from the past 13 days.

Starfield has found itself in the mainstream gaming news media lately after negative reviews continued to mount and brought its Steam score to 'Mostly Negative.'

The ZeniMax/Bethesda unit in Xbox has been slightly restructured lately to accommodate the entry of the Activision Blizzard department. Meanwhile, the Activision CEOs are under the direct supervision of Matt Booty, Todd Howard, Matt Firor, and the other Bethesda executives who report to Jill Braff instead.
