One of Starfield's most forbidding planetary regions is the ocean, thanks to a lack of vehicles aside from the spacefarer’s ship. Fortunately, flying across oceans without installing a mod is possible.
Despite being a space exploration RPG, Starfield lacks planetary vehicles and the capability to fly one’s spaceship across the planet. While a future update promises to bring the first land vehicle, there are still no indications whether the team at Bethesda plans to add amphibious versions to the game.
Fortunately, there is a trick that can help people travel across oceans as far as they dare in the game. All they need is the Boost Pack, or jetpack as it is commonly called, and some well-timed firing of the Pack. Take a look at the video from user -Captain-’s Reddit thread below.
However, users quickly noted that this maneuver is only possible by assigning an extra jump button to activate the boost pack, which the Redditor confirmed. Unfortunately, this means the trick is available only to Starfield players on Steam, not those playing on the Xbox Series S and X consoles.
Some console players said this feature should’ve been implemented on consoles, although others are convinced that this is a cut or unfinished feature that somehow made it to the finished product.
Funnily, one Redditor suggested that -Captain- merely confirmed that boats are coming to Starfield by demonstrating that players turn their characters into boats.
This discovery brings to mind a mod called “Boost Forever,” which replenishes the fuel for the Boost Pack every time it is used. Like this feature, Boost Forever is only available to PC players, as consoles don’t currently support mods without the Creation Kit.
