We may have to wait a bit before The Elder Scrolls VI, the sequel to last decade’s Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, since Bethesda has to divide its time between post-launch support for Starfield and developing this title.
However, that doesn’t stop fans from speculating on what the game could bring to the table.
For instance, Redditors have already speculated that ES6 could feature a new kind of spellcasting after Elder Scrolls Online community managers revealed a new system called “Scribing” and described it as a “precursor” to the Elder Scrolls series’ Spellcasting system.
Scribing will debut in Elder Scrolls Online in the upcoming Gold Road chapter.
Redditors say it would make no sense for Bethesda to introduce this system in ESO and then totally ignore it for the next Elder Scrolls title.
Now, a gaming news writer at Game Rant is saying that the future Elder Scrolls title could introduce many character classes should it bring back the feature, which was implemented in a revised form in Skyrim.
Instead of asking the player to choose a character class with pre-assigned attributes, Skyrim players were free to customize their character builds by buffing up individual perks when they level up.
According to Josh Cotts at Game Rant, the next Elder Scrolls game could take advantage of the 21 character classes in Oblivion and the seven characters in ESO. It might even feature in some form other character classes that its competitors, like Baldur’s Gate 3, have available for its players.
These, Cotts theorizes, would further heighten anticipation for the long-awaited Skyrim sequel as many players are now craving in-depth character customization reminiscent of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
