In a recent interview with MrMattyPlays, Bethesda’s Todd Howard shared that the space exploration RPG has hit 14 million players, who play an average of 40 hours each.

With the upcoming release of Shattered Space DLC and the addition of Xbox modding, Starfield can expect these numbers to rise consistently.

When asked by MrMattyPlays whether a potential Starfield 2 is in the works, Todd responded, "I would say we have our hands full right now and just making sure that we're really nurturing each of those franchises we have.”.

To have Starfield be considered one of Bethesda’s big franchises meant that big updates were being developed for the 14 million strong players. “It's 14 million players and that average play time is still over 40 hours a player. It's just like a staggering amount of time in-game, so taking care of each of those franchises and players we talked about, we have our hands full right now.”

While Starfield’s player count may indicate that a sequel isn’t happening too soon, Todd confirmed that there are some big updates set to be released after the Shattered Space DLC. An annual story expansion is also being planned out for Starfield.

In other Bethesda news, Fallout 76 will have continued support as long as possible, according to Todd. Fallout 76’s Skyline Valley update was just recently released, along with the Q3 2024 roadmap for the game.

Players can expect to play as Ghouls in the future update, but in the meantime, adventurers may start unraveling the secrets of Vault 63, a new location added along with the game’s first map expansion.
