There have been no official announcements about a next-gen update for Obsidian Entertainment’s spin-off Fallout: New Vegas. However, this new mod on Nexus represents the next best thing for loyal fans of the game.

Fallout 4 finally received its next-gen update, a patch Bethesda has delayed for about four months as it waited for the highly successful Fallout TV show to premiere. While fans clamor for a new Fallout game, hopefully a spin-off like Fallout: New Vegas, those who love that game are in for a treat courtesy of a modder on Nexus.

This mod is the New Vegas Animation Overhaul—Guns. As its name suggests, this mod refreshes weapon animations in the Fallout spin-off. Based on the video below, firing guns and reloading in first-person mode is smoother and even feels like other first-person shooter games.

The modder indicates it has comprehensive weapon coverage, providing updated animation for weapons from the base game until the final downloadable content, DLC, and Tale of Two Wastelands.

There is a wide range of weapons we’re talking about here, which is why the mod took two and a half years to be ready for release on Nexus. Even then, the modder said a few weapons have not received updated animation, so they’re seeking your help to identify those so they can be added.

Unfortunately, these updated animations only cover the first-person view, and the modder expressed no intention of creating mods for third-person weapon animation.

With this mod, your Fallout: New Vegas game should feel fresh and slightly new. However, Todd Howard has already indicated that Bethesda is ready to work with other studios to improve productivity, so there’s no indication if there’ll be a sequel.

Fallout: New Vegas should also be central to the plot of the Fallout TV show since Hank MacLean is seen walking towards it in his Power Armor at the end of the series finale episode.
