There are multiple Power Armor variants in Fallout 4, each with differing stats and capabilities. Below is a guide to help you collect each one to become the best Wastelander.
Power Armor is the pinnacle of post-war and pre-war technology in Fallout. It provides additional protection and Hit Points (HP) against your opponents and temporarily enhances your S.P.E.C.I.A.L stats, like Strength.
The live-action adaptation on Prime Video showed all players how cool and imposing these suits are, and it’s natural for most, if not all, of those new players now discovering the Wasteland to want these hulking armor in their arsenal.
We want everyone to have a good time in Fallout 4 and save time looking for the many Power Armors scattered throughout the Commonwealth. Once you begin hunting for those suits as the Sole Survivor, we have the definitive guide for you to check out.
T-45 - The Roof of the Museum of Freedom
For most players, this is the first piece of Power Armor they can encounter in the Commonwealth. Obtaining it is almost mandatory because it is the only equipment that can lift the heavy minigun from the downed Vertibird on the Museum’s roof, which is needed to kill the Deathclaw waiting outside.
It’s easy to find because it’s critical to the quest When Freedom Calls. After meeting Preston Garvey, walk past everyone in the room and exit the door at its edge. Once outside, turn right and enter the room at the end of the hallway, and you’ll find the inactive Power Armor.
To power this one, you must collect the Fusion Core in the museum's basement. Afterwards, you can fight and kill the Deathclaw to escort Garvey’s Minutemen and the Quincy survivors to Sanctuary Hills.
Raider Power Armor
Contrary to what you may have read, the Enclave, the New California Republic, and the Brotherhood of Steel are not the only factions using Power Armor. Raiders, who can get through the fog of Wasteland Chems, have also fashioned their own Power Armor using fragments of pre-war models scattered throughout the land.
Raiders wearing complete Armor sets can be found in various locations in the Commonwealth, including Revere Beach Station, outside Vault 88, and the Dunwich Borers. Alternatively, you can collect pieces of this Armor worn as part of individual Raiders’ armor. The concrete surrounding the helmets and shoulder pieces can distinguish these armour sets.
T-51 - Robotics Disposal Ground
The T-51 is perfectly balanced in terms of its statistics, making it the ideal replacement for the first T-45 you get from the When Freedom Calls mission. Aside from having slightly better specifications than the T-45, upgrade parts and paint jobs for the T-51 are financially manageable.
To get the T-51, you’ll need to travel to the northwest region of the World Map. The Disposal Ground is northeast of Vault 111 and northwest of USAF Satellite Station Olivia.
Once you discover the Robotics Disposal Ground, look for the crashed Vertibird. Your new Power Armor will be waiting for you there. You can also find a Fusion Core near a sentry bot.
De-Capitalist Power Armor - Harbormaster Hotel
The De-Capitalist Power Armor is simply one to which a De-Capitalist Helmet is attached. It can be found at the end of the All Hallow’s Eve quest line in the Fallout 4 next-gen update.
To start the quest, you’ll need to listen to the Mysterious Signal in your Pip-Boy after installing the new update. It will treat you to a few seconds of growling audio, after which you’ll be tasked to investigate the source of the signal. The signal comes from within the Harbormaster Hotel in the city area of Boston, which you can find on the map.
Solve the mystery of what happened to the New England Technocrat Society, and you’ll access a control room where you can find the AI user terminal and Power Armor standing in a corner to the right. Make sure you have a Fusion Core with you to wear this and bring it to a Settlement through Fast Travel.
T-60 Power Armor - The Atom Cats
The T-60 is the most advanced Power Armor in Fallout lore and is featured in the Fallout live-action show. The Armor’s parts are available in various locations, including the Prydwen, where you can find a complete set or purchase a two-leg set from Proctor Teagan.
However, a complete set is also available at the Atom Cats garage, which Rowdy is selling.
Due to its rarity, you could also steal the complete set or its parts. However, this could result in your victims fighting back and killing you.
X-01 Power Armor
Next to the T-60, the X-01 Power Armor is the rarest model in Fallout 4. You can grab it in three locations, but you have to keep visiting these places until the Power Armor appears:
- The East Boston Police Station
The Power Armor is inside a cage west of the Police Station. You need to get in the main barge to find it.
- 35 Court
The 35 Court is within the city’s Financial District. Go up to the rooftop and find a secret chamber marked by a red button that you need to press. You will then need to fight an Assaultron and a Sentry Bot. - South Boston Military Checkpoint
Fast-travel to Diamond City and travel southeast. When you find the checkpoint, go to the western side of a building where you can find a Terminal. Ensure you’ve upgraded your terminal unlocking skills because this requires an expert.
X-02 Power Armor
The X-02 Power Armor is a reward for completing the quest Speak of the Devil, part of the Fallout 4 next-gen update. Acquiring this Armor can be tricky because you’ll need to choose whether or not to restore the Enclave transmission near the end of this quest.
If you choose to restore the transmission, a safe near the terminal will lock and hide the X-02 Power Armor forever. Otherwise, cutting off the radio transmission will unlock the Power Armor for you.
Hellfire Power Armor
The Power Armor is named as such because the characters that wield them are known for using flame-based weapons. The first is Pyro, whom you’ll need to assassinate as part of your objective in the new quest Pyromaniac. His death will allow you to loot the Power Armor from his person.
The second version is the Enclave Hellfire Power Armor, which you can loot from the Enclave soldiers you’ll encounter in all five quests brought by the next-gen update for Fallout 4.
Maintaining Your Power Armor
Like all equipment in Fallout 4, the Power Armor is not invincible and is more affected by wear and tear during combat than any other gear in the game. Fortunately, maintenance can be easily done using the Power Armor racks in various Wasteland settlements.
All you need to do is enter your Power Armor, walk to the rack to attach it, exit it, and then go through the menu the same way you operate the Weapons Workbench. You’ll have to select which part you want to work on and what you’d like to do. You can repaint, modify, and repair your Power Armor components in the rack.
The Power Armor also operates using a Fusion Core as its power source. Walking into the rack for the Power Armor recharges the attached core and through the Repair menu. Alternatively, you can transfer an existing Fusion Core that is not connected to the Power Armor to the Power Armor station and charge it.
The Power Armor is, without a doubt, the best item to have in your arsenal when playing Fallout 4. Now that you know where to find them and how to maintain them, it’s time to get back to the game and start reaping the benefits.
