Starfield - Biggest Xbox Launch of the Generation

Sales numbers for Starfield have started to come in, and the game has been a roaring success for Microsoft and Bethesda. Looking at new data, Starfield is the fifth best-selling game in Europe for 2023, with only Hogwarts Legacy, Diablo 4, The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor beating the galaxy-hopping adventure

The numbers we are seeing are not accounting for Game Pass users, only boxed sales in Europe, making this an even more impressive feat for the game.

The top ten best-selling games in Europe for 2023 as reported by Games Industy.biz -

  1. Hogwarts Legacy (Warner Bros)
  2. Diablo 4 (Activision Blizzard)
  3. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Nintendo)
  4. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (EA)
  5. Starfield (Microsoft)
  6. Resident Evil 4 (Capcom)
  7. Final Fantasy 16 (Square Enix)
  8. F1 23 (EA)
  9. Dead Island 2 (Deep Silver)
  10. NBA 2K23 (2K Games)

As you can see, Starfield has outsold both Resident Evil 4 and Final Fantasy 16 in boxed sales alone! Incredible numbers for a game released on day one for Xbox Game Pass.

From their reporting, Games Industry.biz stated -

Starfield was comfortably No.1 across Europe during its launch week, GSD data shows.

The Xbox game, which is also on PC, became the fastest-selling new IP of the year, and the fifth fastest-selling game of the year overall.

The game just about comes ahead of Forza Horizon 5 as the biggest Xbox launch this generation across Europe.

To have a new IP become such a success early on is great news for Microsoft; becoming the biggest-selling title of the generation (so far) is likely beyond expectations.

Starfield is also a system seller for Xbox, as a 76% increase in console sales was reported over the launch period for the game. We are pleased to see the game succeed early in its lifecycle. We wonder if sales may reach Skyrim's lofty peaks as we see more players pick up the new RPG.
