It’s surprise after surprise for Starfield in the past week, and it’s only the first two weeks of 2024. It started with a lightning win at the 2023 Steam Awards for Most Innovative Gameplay. Nominations at the New York Game Awards and the BAFTA followed this.
Starfield is on its way to critical acclaim. During The Game Awards in December last year, it may not have won the much-coveted Game of the Year. However, it may win one or two more awards in the next couple of months in the first quarter!
In any case, Starfield is once again nominated for the 27th Annual D.I.C.E Awards in not just one but two categories - Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction and Role-Playing Game of the Year!
Unsurprisingly, it’s up against serious competition. Baldur’s Gate 3 and Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty are on the Game of the Year shortlist with Diablo IV and Final Fantasy XVI. Baldur’s Gate 3 won TGA’s GOTY award last year, if you remember.
The final winners for each category will be revealed next month, February 15, at the culmination of the 2024 D.I.C.E Summit. The awards ceremony will be broadcast by IGN, whose member Stella Chung will also join the stage with Greg Miller of Kinda Funny Games.
Let’s cross our fingers and hope Starfield takes home at least one part of the bacon during the D.I.C.E Awards next month!
The Steam Awards win was an absolute surprise, but unhappy players took no time to give Starfield consecutive negative reviews on Steam right after it was announced. Some players believe the victory resulted from a troll vote, which they feel can only be corrected by further negative comments about the game.
