- Article updated January 17 to reflect the new release date of the patch
We all know that Starfield still needs more patches and updates to fix some of those pesky niggles and bugs that crop up. Since launch, a slow stream of fixes has been brought to the game, but fans still hope for further additions to the space game.
Late last year, Bethesda revealed they would be rolling out regular updates starting in February with some much-asked-for features. Different travel methods being added to the game being the most intriguing addition mentioned; however, nothing has been unveiled as of yet.
This newly announced update will roll out first to Steam Beta on January 17, with a full launch for all players to follow. Full patch notes will be revealed when the patch hits Steam Beta next week.
UPDATE
Bethesda has just announced the patch will be going live tomorrow, January 18.
Update: the issue has been resolved, and the Steam Beta for our next update will be going live tomorrow morning. Stay tuned for the full patch notes when it opens!

Here is what has been said so far by Bethesda regarding the update on their official X account -
Next week, on January 17, we’ll be putting our biggest @StarfieldGame update yet into Steam Beta with over 100 fixes and improvements, with a planned release date for all players two weeks later. Here’s some of what you can expect:
This update contains a multitude of fixes to Quests. Eye of the Storm issues such as being unable to dock with the Legacy or data transfer not starting, and Temples not showing up in Into the Unknown, will no longer prevent Constellation from exploring the cosmos.
Additionally, this update brings stability improvements and numerous graphic improvements ranging from additional widescreen support to improved textures, lighting, and shadows.
Other fixes and improvements include sun disk geometry, planet ring shadows, bulldozed objects reappearing when returning to an Outpost, ship hatches marked inaccessible, and another fix for asteroids following ships. The full update notes will be posted next week when the Steam Beta is released!
We assume this patch will not be the start of the larger updates promised by Todd Howard's post-launch team, as it was stated that those would begin this February. That said, if the wide release after the Steam Beta arrives in February, this could be the first of the six weekly bigger patches promised.
We can only wait to see what the patch notes reveal when the update hits Steam Beta next week.
