The Fallout 4 next-gen update is now available for free on all platforms. However, PlayStation players who previously bought the game are raging over several issues, including their inability to download the update for their consoles.

Yesterday marked the day of the long-awaited next-gen update for Fallout 4, which had been delayed an additional four months in December. When Bethesda announced yesterday that the patch is finally available for download, both old and new players rushed to receive the free update and enjoy the changes after waiting two weeks following the release date announcement.

While many players were able to download the update to version 1.36 successfully to their Xbox consoles and PC, PlayStation owners were left confused as many who owned the game through the PlayStation Plus subscription service were unable to do the same.

Based on replies to Bethesda’s announcement on its official X account, some players who own Fallout 4 through the PS Plus Essential and Collection services were told to purchase the next-gen update for $20, not free, as the studio had previously announced.

PS Plus Extra members and those who previously obtained the game through the PlayStation 5 Catalogue also experienced similar issues.

In response, Bethesda tweeted that the update would be available to PS Plus Extra subscribers. Unfortunately, the studio said that they have no information regarding the availability of updates for PS Plus Essential and Collection members and buyers from the PS5 Catalogue.

Some of these users are unhappy with this reply, with not a few suggesting that this issue could be grounds for a class action lawsuit against Bethesda for making fraudulent or misrepresented claims in marketing the next-gen update.

The Fallout 4 next-gen update is a free patch designed to provide updated graphics, support for widescreen displays and 60 frames per second video, and performance and quality modes for next-gen consoles. The update will also add quest, login, and stability fixes for PlayStation 4.
