Hacking computer terminals in Fallout 4 is either the most fun or frustrating mini-games in the Wasteland. However, this discovery by an X user completely changes computer hacking as we know it.

Fallout 4 is riding a new wave of popularity, thanks to the first live-action adaptation series available on Amazon’s Prime Video subscription service. Three weeks after its premiere, the game took the top spot in the European gaming charts.

With many players now discovering or returning to the game, we’ve seen numerous content focusing on the features of the fourth entry in the Fallout franchise. One interesting post we’ve spotted on X, formerly Twitter, from Jamie Moran.

Computer hacking is a very straightforward process. The player must guess the password from the many 4-letter words on the screen. Once selected, the computer will give a Likeness rating of 1 to 4 that informs players how many letters of the correct password in the proper order are in the option that you selected.

Players have four tries to guess the correct answer before the computer terminal locks them out for some time. Depending on the skill level required, this can be a minor inconvenience or a real annoyance that can only be avoided by leaving the terminal on a third failed attempt.

However, Jamie Moran discovered some facts about the Fallout 4 mini-game that can alter your experience.

First, selecting open and closed brackets and pressing Enter will remove duds or words without letters corresponding to the password. Second, combining those brackets and other symbols can reset your tries without leaving the computer.

Although some users pointed out that the tutorial covers this, many other users say they are unaware of such a feature for the hacking process.

What do you think of this discovery for Fallout 4? Will it save you time hacking computer terminals, or would you instead let Nick Valentine do it for you?

Make sure to download the Fallout 4 next-gen update, which brings several new story quests involving the Enclave. You could also obtain a new set of Power Armor to add to your existing collection.
