The Maelstrom SMG resembles a futuristic MPX or UMP. It can hold 40 bullets in its magazine, which is a lot. But we don't know what kind of bullets it uses yet. We also don't know who made it, but it looks more makeshift compared to Combatech's weapons.
What's important is that the Maelstrom shoots really fast, faster than anything else we've seen in Starfield so far. But it's not very good at hitting far-away targets. If you're fighting close to enemies, the Maelstrom could be one of the best guns for you.
It has iron sights, which are good for medium-distance fighting, but it won't work as well for far-away shooting.
